She is predeceased by her mother and father Rena and Fab Whitley, four sisters: Iva Mae Whitley Etheridge of Selma, NC; Eloise Whitley Newsome of Lucama, NC; Blanche Barnes Simpson of Kenly, NC; and Mabel Barnes Thompson of Shelby, NC; and three brothers: Walter Russell Barnes of Kenly, NC; Dorman Perry White of Kenly, NC; and Fab B. Whitley of Williamston, NC. Dell is survived by her husband George Moore Jr. of the home; daughter: Kimberly Moore Jessup and husband Robert Henry Jessup of Greenville; son: Gregory George Moore of Raleigh; two grandchildren: Robert Henry Jessup of Raleigh and Hannah Jessup Cooke and husband Bryant Cooke of Greenville. In addition, she is survived by a brother: Everette Hooks Whitley and his wife Sally of Richmond, VA and many nieces and nephews.

Dell was born March 19, 1933 in Wilson County. She graduated from Lucama High School. Dell was accepted to East Carolina University preparing to begin in September of 1953 but instead on August 30, 1953, she married the love of her life and shared a wonderful life together for 67 years. On Saturday, December 16th surrounded by her family, Dell spoke these words to George: "Our love will never end!"

Dell was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker for many years while her children were younger. She worked at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church Day School for several years and then later retired from the Bladen County Tax office. She was an active member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church until her lung illness. Dell was a member of the Circle Sunday School Class and served on various committees. She loved her church and was proud to be a part of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church congregation.

Dell enjoyed caring for others before herself. She loved her family, neighbors and her friends. Her husband, children and especially her grandchildren added a special sparkle to her eyes.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Saturday, December 23rd at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am in the church sanctuary with Rev. Chris Carroll, Dr. David Elks, and Dr. Michael Cogdell officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to either the Stepp Endowment Program (In memory of Dell Moore) Office of Gift Records East Carolina University, 2200 South Charles Boulevard, Greenville, NC 27858 (This is a program that provides comprehensive support to the students with learning disabilities that aspire to achieve a college education.)
