Obituary

Dorothy (Dot) Gibson Pervine, 89, of Elizabethtown went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2017. Dorothy was a life-long resident of Bladen County and was born to George and Lela Gibson on December 3, 1927 in Clarkton, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Fred Pervine; sons: Allen Ray and George Russell Pervine; brothers: Duke and Orborn Gibson; sisters: Mary Gibson Thompson and Hannah Gibson Dennis. Dorothy is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a sister, Georgia White of Hampstead, NC.

Dorothy was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro, NC for many years and she sang in the choir. Dorothy graduated from Clarkton High School in 1945. She married Fred Pervine in 1946. She went on to work for Whiteville Apparel in Whiteville, NC and worked there a number of years before the plant was taken over by Hart Schaffner Marx. Dorothy retired from Hart Schaffner Marx after approximately 30 years of service, and went on to work at Moore's, Goody's and Peebles in Elizabethtown. She finally quit work in December 2012. Dorothy received a Certificate of Achievement from Stage Stores for 10 Years of Dedicated and Outstanding Service in 2010 and was recognized as the Peebles Associate of the Year in 2008. Dorothy spent many years as a volunteer at Bladen County Hospital and received several awards for her service. One such award was the Bladen County Hospital Volunteer of the Year in 1996.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro, NC at 3pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Reverend Jimmy Strole and Reverend Barry Helms will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery located beside the church.

Pallbearers are: Bill Burney, Brent Hood, Elmer Gibson, Mike Lewis, Kyle Lewis and Bobby Gooden. The alternate pallbearer is Andy Hood.

In lieu of flowers, donations/memorials may be made in her name to Shady Grove Baptist Church 10981 Twisted Hickory Road Bladenboro, NC 28320.
