Obituary

Margaret Evans McKeithan Pigford, passed on to Heaven after a long illness on April 25, 2017 just shy of her 91st birthday. She is preceded in death by her brothers Charles and Riley Evans and sister Betsy Dorton.
Margaret, a native of Bladen County, was one of ten children born to J.Clyde Evans and Fannie Kelly Evans. When their mother died at a young age, Margaret became a "surrogate" mother for the other siblings and a gracious hostess for the family home.
She is survived by her four brothers: Edgar Evans of Bladenboro, NC; Alva Evans and wife Kate of Mt. Gilead, NC; Johnnie Evans of Morrisville, NC and Jasper Evans and wife Sue of Mooresville, NC. Her two surviving sisters are Doris Danella of Wilmington, NC and Nancy Watson and husband Bob of Fuquay Varina, NC. "Aunt Margaret" was cherished by 28 nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro where she was active in WMU and the Mary Ida Bridger Sunday School Class. In her community, she was active in the Reader's Guild Book Club and the Bladenboro Garden Club. She was a cofounder of the Bladenboro Christmas Parade, co-chairing the parade for a number of years. Her caring nature was evident in her passion for finding a cure for cancer as she helped in organizing fundraisers for that purpose. After retiring from Waccamaw Bank, Margaret enjoyed traveling with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 am -12 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Bladenboro followed by a memorial service at 12 pm. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Edgar Evans, 1107 S. Main Street, Bladenboro, NC 28320.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro Building Fund, P.O. Box 176, Bladenboro, NC 28320 or Liberty Home Care & Hospice, 46 McNeil Plaza, Whiteville, NC 28472.
