Obituary

Mary T. Lennon, 87, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born September 18, 1930 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Florence Hodge and Furnie Hayes Thompson. Mary graduated from the Women's College in Greensboro, NC and returned to Bladen County to marry Max R. Lennon on November 1, 1951. She then continued her education at North Carolina State University earning her Masters of Education and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society.

Mary's passion for education led her to become a teacher and guidance counselor, enriching the lives of her students. Mary continued serving her community by building and managing long-term care facilities for the elderly throughout North Carolina. She served on many boards throughout the industry promoting a family-oriented environment for residents and their loved ones.

Mary's love for traveling has led her to every continent in the world, encouraging her family to "travel while you can." She was a strong-willed, born leaded, who brought joy to others. She was dedicated to her church, Shady Grove Baptist. Mary will be remembered for her unconditional love and dedication to her family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her sister: Margaret Evans. She is survived by two sons: Rudy Lennon and wife Melinda of Clarkton, Daniel Max Lennon and wife Shelba of Elizabethtown; two daughters: Mary-Margaret Clifton and husband Ray of Clarkton, Ophelia Leach of Clarkton; sister: Frances Butler of White Oak; five grandchildren: Julian Lennon, Austin Lennon, Hali Lennon, Drake Clifton, and Laken Clifton and one great grandchild: Hayzli Tighe.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 2:00pm at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Bladenboro, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Strole. An entombment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the church fellowship hall.
